GCG – Day 2: Saint Jean Pied de Port – Pamplona

WALK: LA CROIX THIBAUT – RONCESVALLES. 9 KM – 3.5 HOURS

After breakfast we will drive up the Pyrenees Mountain along the Camino route, passing Hunto, Orisson, la Vierge de Biakorri and arriving at La Croix Thibault, the start point for today’s walk.
From here you’ll walk 5 km up to Lepoeder Mountain Pass (1,430 m), crossing the French-Spanish border, and 4 km down to Roncesvalles. An extraordinary landscape full of prairies, beech, pine and oak forests.
This is a demanding walk in one of the most iconic stages in Camino.
In Roncesvalles, you will have the chance to rest, have a drink and some food if you wish.
Roncesvalles is an iconic stop on Camino, it has been a natural pass for invader armies through History, including Charlemagne army that suffered a punishing defeat in this place.
You’ll be able to visit the historical sites; The largest albergue on Camino, an old pilgrim’s hospital, 13th-century Colegiata de Santa María, Chapel of St. Augustine and the oldest building in the compound the Romanesque Chapel of Sancti Spiritus.
Then, we’ll drive to your accommodation in Pamplona.
We’ll meet later in the Foyer to start our visit to the amazing Old City: Plaza del Castillo, Café Iruña (where Ernest Hemingway started writing some of his world-famous books), City Hall, streets where the running of the bulls is held every July, … finishing, of course, in the Bullfighting Arena.
After the city visit, we will experience a local iconic restaurant for your Gourmet dinner.
